Backup and Restore

You should start the course with the blank set of accounts found here - SAGEBACK.001
As you work through this course it is important that you make regular backups of your accounts. These backups can be used to ‘recover’ your accounts to a certain point in time, so keep a note of where you saved your backup. Be sure to restore your last backup before you start a new lesson. You should always make backups when requested in the coursework.

A suitable backup naming convention should be used

SAGE1p25.000 = sage backup for workbook 1 up to page 25

SAGE3p37.000 = sage backup for workbook 3 up to page 37

Check you are only taking a backup of the 3 key files -Data Files, Audit Trail History and Backup Attachments.

Dates
Sage processes data on a monthly cycle. In the workbooks some Sage reports show the current month and the year to date figures. Your reports may show different figures for the current month but the figures for the year to date should be the same as those shown in the workbook.

! Make sure you set the Financial Year to the current month and year at the start of the course. !

General Advice
Please take time to ensure you have entered the information correctly. Problems will occur if …

The wrong nominal code is used.
The wrong amount is entered.
The wrong VAT code is selected.

When you run the check files routine, after the Recurring entries section in workbook 3, prior to the backup you may receive some comments. This is because you have set payments to happen some time in the future. When this happens advise just view the comments and then proceed as normal.

End of course
At the end of the course check the trial balance figure agrees with that shown in the workbook .. £5375.02. If this does not agree check your work against this sample audit trail to help identify any problems.

Erroneous Index in Part 3
Parts of the index pages for the third part of this course are erroneous. Please download this sheet to correct this problem.

Students will receive a college certificate for completing the course. This will be posted to the address supplied on the enrolment form.
