Argyll College Library Resources
All students enrolled on college courses are members of the library.
Each learning centre has a small number of books that can help you with your course, but most of the book collection is held at our Lochgilphead centre. As well as these books, as an Argyll College student you can have access to most of the books held at any of the other UHI academic partner libraries too.
Students enrolled on further education courses can borrow up to six books at a time, for a maximum of four weeks.
Staff and students enrolled on higher education courses can borrow up to twelve books at a time.
A book can be renewed up to a maximum of 3 times provided no one else has reserved it and is waiting for that book.
It must be renewed before it becomes overdue and this can be done:
- in person by asking your learning centre manager.
- by telephone on 01631 559673.
- by email to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it
- by logging in to your account in the UHI library catalogue.
Fines may be payable on overdue books so please return or renew any borrowed books on time. You will be asked to pay the replacement cost for lost or damaged books.
To find what books are available you need to search the UHI library catalogue. To see how to do this follow the Quickstart Guide or contact the librarian on 01631 559673 or by email on This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it
To borrow a book from your local learning centre, ask your learning centre manager who will give you a simple form to complete.
If the book is held at another centre, or even at another college library, then the book can be requested by email to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it and the book will be sent to your nearest learning centre for you to collect. The email requesting the book must include the book details (easiest to copy and paste from the library catalogue web page) and of course your name and which learning centre you use. If you want to reserve a book that is already out on loan then email the details of the book to the librarian and the book will be reserved for you.
HE students may also need to use electronic resources (e-resources) for their course work. To find out how to do this look at How to access UHI Library online resources.
